PC Programs for Micrsoft Windows or DOS or LINUX

The files and executable programs, that can be downloaded from this web page, manipulate and display Model and observational DataFiles and LinePlotFiles on a PC. Because the programs require filenames on the command line, they should be executed in MS-DOS or via a MS-DOS prompt in Microsoft Windows or LINUX. The MS-DOS prompt in Windows is located by clicking on "Start", clicking on "Programs", and then clicking on "MS-DOS Prompt". The programs can also be executed via the "Run" command which requires full path names, but except for PCCPIJ.EXE, PCTEXT.EXE and PCLPLOT.EXE, the output is displayed in a window which is immediately erased.

Many of the programs need to know the ocean/land distribution. This information is located in the file Z72X46N. The programs look for this file in the present working directory or in one of the directories C:\AOM , C:\CPIJ , D:\AOM , D:\CPIJ , E:\AOM , or E:\CPIJ . The program PCCPIJ.EXE looks in these seven directories for the files CPIJ.I , PCCOLORS , and the color block distribution table files, all of which are text files. When downloading files from this web page, it is recommended that they be stored in a directory called C:\AOM

PCQDF.EXE Lists record titles of a DataFile.
PCSUBSET.EXE Chooses a subset of records of a DataFile.
PCASCII.EXE Creates ASCII file of records in a DataFile.
ASCIITOD.EXE Creates a DataFile from the records of an ASCII file.
PCDATA.EXE Prints a LinePlotFile of selected grid cell values and their area weighted average for each record of a DataFile.

PCIJTOJ.EXE Prints a LinePlotFile of one or more DataFile records as a function of latitude by averaging over longitude.
PCMERGE.EXE Reads in several LinePlotFiles and write a single output LinePlotFile called MERGE.LP . Each Y line of MERGE.LP is a linear combination of input lines.
PCMEAN.EXE Prints mean values of selected record of a DataFile for each hemisphere and each surface type.
PCRMS.EXE Prints root mean square differences between selected records of two DataFiles for each hemisphere and each surface type.
PCSUM.EXE Prints a LinePlotFile of selected grid cell values and their sum for each record of a DataFile.
PCCPIJ.EXE Visual, interactive graphics program that can also produce color PostScript files from DataFiles.

CPIJ.I Default presentation parameters for different quantities used by PCCPIJ.
PCCOLORS RGB values for PostScript colors used by PCCPIJ.
SCT0 Uniformly spaced color block distribution table used by PCCPIJ. The following color block distribution tables are not uniformly spaced: SCT1 , SCT2 , SCT3 , SCT4 , SCT5 , SCT6 , SCT7 , SCT8 , SCT9 .
PCTEXT.EXE Visual, interactive program that displays the numerical content of a DataFile record for a movable spatial window.
