PCTEXT.TXT Documentation for PCTEXT 2002/05/10 Introduction ------------ PCTEXT is an interactive program that displays the contents of a DataFile on a PC screen in text mode. Only a longitude by latitude window of the global contents of a record is visible on the screen at one time. Grid cell values are displayed numerically. By increasing or decreasing the scaling factor, the most significant digits of a grid cell's value can be displayed. Invocation ---------- PCTEXT PCTEXT DataFile PCTEXT DataFile recnum Location of Input File Z72X46N ------------------------------ PCTEXT requires the input DataFile Z72X46N whose first contains the Model's ocean fraction. PCTEXT searches for Z72X46N in the following directories in this order: present working directory, C:\AOM, C:\CPIJ\, D:\AOM, D:\CPIJ\, E:\AOM, E:\CPIJ\. If Z72X46N cannot be found, PCTEXT will not run. Command Summary --------------- Q = Quit I = Increase scaling factor D = Decrease scaling factor N = Next record in DataFile P = Previous record in DataFile n = display n-th record in DataFile (n is an integer) Right Arrow = scroll left Left Arrow = scroll right Up Arrow = scroll down Down Arrow = scroll up Screen Display -------------- The text screen of PCTEXT has the following elements: The top line contains the file name, the current record number, and the current factor which multiplies the internal numbers to determine the numbers displayed. The second line shows the title of the current record. The third line shows longitudes at grid cell edges. The left edge shows the latitudes of grid cell centers. Numbers on a blue background are ocean grid cell values; numbers on a yellow background are continental grid cell values. The second column from the right shows the Model latitude index for each row of grid cells. Model latitude indicies range from 1 at the South Pole to 46 at the North Pole. The last column on the right shows the average value for that latitude. The bottom row shows the Model longitude index for each column of grid cells. Model longitude indicies range from 1 at 187.5 W (= -187.5) to 72 at 187.5 E. The number on the lower right of the screen is the area weighted global average value excluding any values that are less than or equal to -999999. A grid cell value of -999999 is used for missing data.
